Maldini And Ancelotti On Heerenveen

Milan captain Paolo Maldini and coach Carlo Ancelotti have spoken about the threat that awaits them in tonight's UEFA Cup tie in Holland.

The UEFA Cup group stage draw put Serie A giants Milan alongside Premier League club Portsmouth, Bundesliga side Wolfsburg, Dutch outfit Heerenveen and Portuguese team Braga in Group E.

Coach Ancelotti expects a tough challenge in progressing to the knockout stages and he feels victory in the fixtures away to Portsmouth and at home to Wolfsburg could go a long way to ensuring that the Rossoneri top their group.

Maldini and co. take on Heerenveen in Holland tonight in the first game of the group stage. Milan come off the back of a comfortable 3-0 win over Sampdoria in Serie A, which will give the Rossoneri confidence ahead of this encounter.

The captain spoke of tonight's encounter in Holland, saying, “I hear that they are a team which is very fast, they play good football especially at home so it will be necessary to be careful. We want to go to Holland to aim for the victory, knowing there are also many games left to play.”

Ancelotti warned of the threat that the Dutch side poses, insisting, “We have to be careful of this team. I know how they play - I've seen them on TV numerous times.

“We will not only have to run, but run well. Heerenveen play with organisation and speed - they are very offensive,” revealed the Milan boss.

Marco Borriello and Alessandro Nesta are back from injury, which will boost the team. Despite his warnings, Ancelotti will be hoping to come home with the win and all three points.
