AC Milan Join Push For Paolo Maldini To Play For Italy

Following the announcement earlier today that the legendary defender wants to play for Italy one more time, his club are now also supporting the campaign initiated by Goal.com…

Last week Goal.com launched an ambitious campaign, calling for Paolo Maldini to be handed one last game for Italy before he retires, and asking for this game to be in the international friendly against Brazil in London next Tuesday.

The campaign received an overwhelming response of more than 6000 comments from readers, and led to Marcello Lippi exclusively telling Goal.com that he was happy to offer Maldini an international farewell.

This afternoon, Maldini himself announced that he wanted to play for the Azzurri one more time, prior to hanging up his boots.

The Rossoneri themselves have now declared their support for Goal.com’s campaign and, this evening, MilanChannel will be airing a special programme thanking our website for the idea, and pushing for 'Il Capitano’s' swansong.

"It's a great idea, I read it on your site,” MilanChannel director Mauro Suma revealed.

“Maldini was also in agreement. This evening MilanChannel will dedicate a special programme to this story.”

It remains to be seen whether the friendly against Brazil will mark Maldini’s farewell, but given the growing public pressure, this possibility cannot be ruled out.
