Maldini Is Just Like The Rest - Mourinho

Inter coach Jose Mourinho has spoken about Milan legend Paolo Maldini ahead of what will be the Italian's final derby on Sunday night...

Sunday night’s Milan derby has been much talked about, and apart from bragging rights and all the other accoutrements that come with a big rivalry, this one sees Paolo Maldini play his last match against Inter.

Even Nerrazzurri boss Jose Mourinho spared a thought for the defender when speaking to his club’s official website, Inter.it.

“In a career like his, it is not a won or lost derby that will define anything,” Jose began.“His achievements are unparalleled, and that this really is his last derby is hard for everyone to take, even me.

“During the game however, he is just like everyone else. That means, if he commits a foul in the penalty area, the referee has to give it, if he deserves a booking he should get one and if he deserves a red card, he should be sent off.

“This is all to say that during those 90 minutes he is no different to the other players, after the game, he must be considered extraordinary.”

Mourinho also spoke about Clarence Seedorf’s comments that the Rossoneri want to win the derby for their captain.

“Seedorf is a very astute and clever man, and in making those comments he is looking to fire up his team-mates and everyone watching the game,” the coach concluded.

People will be watching all across the world to witness Paolo’s last derby which kicks off at 20:45 CET on Sunday.
