Legend Paolo Maldini Still Eager For Goal.com's Italy Farewell Match

The Rossoneri superstar is eager to play the farewell match which was born from Goal.com's idea to get him out of international retirement...

Milan and Italy legend Paolo Maldini insists he is still keen on playing a farewell match for the Azzurri once he hangs up his boots at the end of the season.

The defender spoke about Goal.com's ambitious campaign to get him to play against Brazil in the friendly match back in February. That didn't happen due to time constraints, but the Italian is ready to play as and when the Italian FA organises the special match.

"It was the media [Goal.com] who tried to get me into the Italy team with the Brazil-Italy match. Why doesn't Lippi give Maldini a chance?," the defender told La Stampa.

"I said I was up for anything but on the conditions that I wasn't begged to do it, and that it's not a problem or burden."

Reports in Italy have suggested using the special Azzurri farewell involving Maldini with proceeds heading towards the relief operation of the recent Italian earthquake. The stopper is up for it as he gets ready to play.

"It would be magnificent and I would be proud to do it," added Maldini.
