Inter Defender Santon: It's A Shame About Paolo Maldini

The Nerazzurri stopper is hoping his hero from the red and black side of Milan reconsiders his retirement...

Inter starlet Davide Santon has admitted his sadness at Paolo Maldini's retirement plans as he hails the Milan legend.

The Italian youngster is considered by many to be 'the new Maldini'. Santon, who has been outstanding for Inter this season when he has played, is hoping the Rossoneri captain doesn't wave goodbye to fooball totally.

"I really hope he doesn't leave football now, it's a shame," Santon told La Gazzetta Dello Sport.

"Someone like Maldini is important for young people.

"I asked him for his shirt in the derby. At first I thought he forgot, but he came into the dressing room to give it to me personally, it was a great emotion."

Maldini will play his last ever match for Milan when they meet Fiorentina on Sunday. The game is worth a third place finish. The Viola could leapfrog their opponents if they win by more than a two-goal margin.
