Paolo Maldini Thanks Fiorentina Fans For Their Support

The retiring legend has made a brief comment in regards to the fans of the Viola.

Paolo Maldini made his final appearance in a Milan shirt yesterday afternoon as his glittering career came to an end.

Thankfully for his sake, his team-mates were at their best against Fiorentina, as they managed to run away with a comfortable 2-0 victory, with Kaka and Alexandre Pato grabbing the goals.

The result means that the Rossoneri finish in the top three, guaranteeing them a return to the Champions League, whilst the Viola must now go through the preliminary qualifying stages in order to progress to the group stage.

All of the attention in the match surrounded Maldini though, and this was clearly evident at the final whistle, when the 40-year-old was immediately embraced by all of his team-mates.

Following the post-match celebrations, the former Italy captain managed to make one comment, in regards to his thanks for the support he received on the day.

“I thank Florence and all of the supporters for the affection that I have showed in this match,” Maldini jokingly told Rai.

His side finished the season with 74 points next to their name, 10 adrift of their cross-town rivals and champions Inter.
