Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has revealed that he would like to have signed Francesco Totti and Paolo Maldini for los Blancos. In addition, he thought about trying to make Carlo Ancelotti head coach.

Perez was asked about the players from Serie A he would like to have had by the Italian media, and he cited the Roma and Milan legends.

When Perez first took over the reins in 2000, he aimed to create a dynasty of the world's best players, but he could not sign everyone who he would have liked.

"Among all the Italian players, I always liked Totti, but it is very difficult for players like him to leave their clubs," he explained.

"I liked [Maldini]. I always wanted him to come to play for Madrid, but it was never possible."

While Perez removed Vicente del Bosque, he did consider making an approach for Ancelotti from Milan.

"There were moments when I thought Ancelotti might become the coach of Real Madrid, but I never found the right time for the move," he added.

Since his return in July, the Real Madrid supremo has overseen a spending spree of almost €250 million, which drew negative comments from Michele Platini.

"The only thing that Platini questioned was the amount of money that we were spending. It was logical he said that because it was a lot of money," Perez continued.

"But he never criticised Madrid."
