Clarence Seedorf Aims For Milan Derby Win In Honour Of Paolo Maldini

The Dutchman wants his Milan side to win Sunday’s derby, not only to rejuvenate their season, but to give veteran defender Maldini the send off he deserves..

Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf believes that his side will boost their chances of winning the Scudetto this season with a win against Inter, and he wants to win the match for Paolo Maldini, who recently announced that Sunday’s derby will be his last.

The Rossoneri are currently lagging eight points behind the league leaders heading into the crucial showdown. Anything less than a win will see Milan’s players wave arrivederci to the championship.

Seedorf, who is likely to start for the Rossoneri, still believes Milan have what it takes to win the title and he is encouraging his team-mates to be at their very best this weekend.

"Losing is not an option for us and we know that," Seedorf told La Gazzetta Dello Sport.

"We will step onto the pitch with the right mentality to win. We have the ingredients to do it and we are feeling good."

Maldini, who is set to retire at the end of the season, will be playing his last derby. It will be 'Il Captiano's' 56th Derby della Madonnina, and Seedorf plans to dedicate a win to the legendary defender.

"I want to enjoy the rest of my time in this team with Maldini, who is a champion," added the midfielder.

"I hope the team gifts Maldini a win in the derby."
