Paolo Maldini indicted in tax corruption case - report

Former Milan defender Paolo Maldini was indicted on charges of allegedly paying off a tax agency official to avoid a check on his finances.

Milan legend and former captain Paolo Maldini was indicted on Monday on charges which include corruption for allegedly paying off a tax agency official to avoid checks on his finances.

Maldini attended the hearing in Milan, and 12 others were also ordered to stand trial in the case.

Danilo Buongiorno, the 42-year-old's lawyer, says his client was not worried about proceedings as he has not done anything wrong.

"He has never corrupted anyone," Buongiorno told ANSA. "There is no proof of corruption and the court will realise that."

Reports also stated that the former stopper has also been charged by the Milan judge in regards to a property deal in Tuscany.

Corruption charges against Maldini's wife, Adriana Fossa were dismissed.

The trial is scheduled for June 21.
