Moratti Compliments Maldini

Inter president Massimo Moratti has commented on the fact that Paolo Maldini received the Giacinto Facchetti prize on Monday at a ceremony in Italy.

The award, which is named after one of Inter's all-time greats who passed away in September 2006, is bestowed on a player who encapsulates the spirit of football. Facchetti was a world-class defender who captained Inter Milan and Italy in the pre-Dino Zoff era.

The late Facchetti was honoured in 2006 with an award bearing his name, which would be given out annually to a deserving international recipient in his memory.

Maldini is in the final season of a 25-year career spent entirely in the service of the Rossoneri and in recognition of his commitment, loyalty and honest nature, the Milan captain was awarded the Facchetti prize.

Inter Milan president Moratti commented, “I'm very pleased that it's Paolo Maldini who received this award. He has had a wonderful career, he's an honest person, he's a great player and he represents this award very well.”
